Super Short & Pretty Pixie Cuts!

As I watched "The Beatles" 50th Anniversary Special the other night, I was thrilled to see Annie Lennox perform. I've always loved her style - and that super short pixie hair!

Here's a collection of super short pixie cuts that say "SHORT HAIR - DON'T CARE!" and may make you wonder - how short is too short?

I think that there is a special sort of confidence that is required to pull off a super short pixie cut like these, but I do think that it can also be soft and pretty when styled right and with the right makeup! What do you think?

  1. I love pixies. I wear mine in a pixie but just slightly longer than these. I would love to be able to pull of the super short cut but my head shape doesn't favour it.

    1. I love pixies too, as you probably guessed... What I DON'T love is the upkeep. I don't get my hair cut frequently enough to maintain a cut this short. You'd have to go in to the salon every few weeks! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I love these pixie cuts. I wish I could pull it off, but I don't have a strong enough jawline. These ladies look fantastic!

    1. I don't know. I love a pixie on someone with a heart-shaped face. If you wear your hair pulled back, you can wear a short pixie! I just blog-stalked you and I think you'd look bad-ass!

  3. I love love love these short pixie cuts and would totally chop off all of my hair if I knew it would look this good. Sadly, with thick curls I wonder how this would pan out… and how the awkward "growing out" phase would look… ?

    1. Think Audrey Tatou! (http://www.pinterest.com/pin/244672192228995693/) She looks awesome with short hair. I wish I had thick curls...

    2. There are pictures of curly pixies. A good stylist can cut your hair this short and incorporate the curl well. Keep searching for more pics, there are lots of them that turn out fantastic. Think of the time you'll save each day. You'll have to see how it grows out and how long you can last. Some can wait at least 4 weeks and alter their next cut to try new lengths while keeping the back and sides neat. There are lots of videos online on growing out a pixie cut. You'd be amazed at what can be done to manage that.

  4. Oh wow! Pretty cool pixie hair cuts, I love them all. Great photos too. I once wore my hair very short but now they've grown back, it's like falling in love with something I do not want to loose again.

    1. I've been there! I've grown out my hair and cut it all off again more times than I could count! I find that when it's long, my hair is so fine that it looks kinda nasty. While I wish for long hair it just doesn't work on me. Thanks for the comment!

  5. I've had a pixie in the past, though never quite as short as these ladies! I liked my hair short like that...what eventually made my grow my hair out is being asked what gender I was a little too often. I don't usually wear makeup and I guess I don't look very womanly without much hair??

    1. Haha! I've always thought that - especially when I wear a baseball cap - I look like a little boy. That is from the neck up! I don't wear much makeup either, but I started using Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker lip balm and it adds just a touch of color and shine. Plus it tastes really good!

    2. Teehee! this happens to me also. I use Baby Love Lip Balm by Maybelline which gives a little tint and shine. And some small cubic zirconia posts in my ears. I don't have to worry about salon visits for my super short pixie. I learned to cut it myself and do a phenomenal job...! I found that using battery powered clippers as oppossed to the heavy electric ones work best. I can snap on many different size guards for varying lengths if I desire. Also, because the clippers are lightweight plastic I have WAY more control moving them around my head cutting and shaping. It also lets me control the pressure so I don't cut too short. I get most of my compliments from women in their 50-60+ it's wonderful :~)

  6. I loved watching the Beatles and Annie Lennox! Pixie cuts are so chic and fashionable. I don't have the face for it, but love the look. I found you at Best of the Weekend! Have a great evening!

    1. I always say that if you ever wear your hair pulled back, (like a ponytail) then you can pull off a pixie cut. BTW, I am still watching that Beatles special once in a while on my DVR. Get a life, right?!

  9. I wear a short pixie like the red head. There is no point in growing my because it's baby fine.
The key is either rock the eye makeup or wear sunglasses & gloss. Oh and earrings.
Sometimes i try to cultivate the Audrey Hepburn simple but elegant look with no jewelry & natural make-up with a liquid liner cat eye, but because I'm not a size 2 it's harder to pull off.
I get allot of compliments & woman say they wish they had the courage. My view is its just hair, this cut grows in fast.
You can have fun with little gem clips & flower head bands. I need a trim about every 4 weeks, but it's worth it for the towel dry + product & go. The last thing i want to do in the summer is use a hair dryer. If you wear it laid down in the winter u can avoid hat hair or rock a fox fur headband - tre' elegante'

  10. P.S. u have to have allot of confidence to wear this cut because there's no hair to hide behind. There's also no hair to block seeing my hazel eyes & pretty skin. I like that because i feel they are my best assets (not counting boobs) LOL.

    1. Did you say boobs? Haha! I love it! I think it's that air of confidence that always makes me think that women with super short pixies are so beautiful. Do you have a difficult time finding a stylist that can do a good pixie cut?

  11. I absolutely love this! I wear mine in a super short pixie and it's been this way for months.. sure the upkeep is more frequent but it's totally worth it!

  12. I love my pixie. I have super thick hair, and I used to have hair all the way down my back, but it was so much to take care of. I get it cut super short then my hair stylist clips the back with the clipppers. I do get mistaken a lot for a male, but I love it and my boyfriend likes it too :)

  13. I have a super short pixie, finally made this drastic switch after having super long and frizzy/curly/thick but fine hair for many years.
Love the pixie, my hair is finally under control. If you want to avoid the hassle and expense of a haircut every 4 weeks, you can push it out to 5 or 6 weeks. It just looks a little different by the end of week 6, and then zip! back to the super short. The stylist I see does a nice job, asks to be reminded at each visit what I like for length in front, sides, back. She does a good job working around my really high forehead and widow's peak and my odd growth pattern at the crown of my head.I've had one kind of stinker haircut in 8 mos., too short in front, too long on sides and back, but just once...

    1. Hi Lora! You're right... A good, short pixie cut can go 5 or 6 weeks and look a lot like a longer, shaggy pixie. Short hair really doesn't have to be high maintenance! Thanks for stopping by!

  14. Hi I finally took the real plunge at 60+ and have a super super short pixie. My hair is very strong as its now mostly white with some grey. Loving it. I look so much more stylish than when I had a medium pixie. No more nana hair. Yay!!!

    1. Square faced women can definitely do short hair! Google Isabella Rosellini. She is SO gorgeous! Rough and frizzy might not matter as much when your hair is short... have you talked with a stylist about it? Good luck!

  16. I had my hair cut in a pixie last Friday. It's short and I'm overweight but I decided that it's what I wanted.....so I did it. I've got a big head too so maybe I look masculine but I don't care how others judge me....I love it

  18. I have a super short pixie that is the result of growing out my grey after years of brown dye and highlights to avoid the matte look. Now my hair is almost totally white and I love it. I had to go totally short because that was where the color line ended, but I think I'll keep it this way. After long brown hair forever, I hardly recognize myself! My husband and friends say I look younger! I am in my 70's...

  19. I've worn a short pixie for several years, and several times over the years. It's just hair, right...fun to change styles. I want to go to a very short pixie, but need to keep a bit of length on the sides and back (not clipper cut). How do I get the look I need? I don't speak 'stylist', and at near 70, don't think I want to learn a new lingo. I rarely see back shots of hairstyles.

    1. I don't speak stylist either, but I think you can ask for FRINGE and specify that you want a scissor cut. In the meantime, I'll see what I can come up with for images and get to work on a new pixie post for you with more pics of the back!

    2. Ooooh - look for pictures of Victoria Beckham for a short pixie with a little length on the sides and in the back! I searched for "pixie Victoria Beckham" and found several images that are super cute! Good luck!

  20. What a fabulous collection of short do's! I love pixie hair and have been considering a super short (possibly even shaved) look for a while now. I'm just not sure if my face is a bit full for such short hair... I've gone pixie (and grown them out again) at least six times in the last eighteen years! I'm not sure why I keep growing them out... maybe ponytail envy? Maybe my daughter's pleas to have hair like her? I don't know. Possibly I get bored and want a change... I do find I change the way I dress and wear makeup when I do go short though. Do you find this too?

    1. I absolutely do! I'm actually in the process of growing out my super short pixie right now! I think it's natural to want what we don't have - whether it's long hair, short hair, curly hair, straight hair, etc. My stylist once accused me of always wanting to make a dramatic change - and I think she was right! That's the best thing about hair - it always grows back!

  22. What is amazing about getting your hair cut short is, so I have found, that you get it really short and since it so layered, it grows out really well and even and healthy. I get my hair cut every six to eight weeks and it looks great!! So happy I cut my hair, I used to have hair down to my butt, however I hated the up keep for it so I hacked it off and gave it to someone who needs it a bit more than I do! ;)
