10 Easy Peasy Pixies to Beat the Summer Heat!

Anyone who HAS a pixie can tell you that short hair isn't really easier than long hair. When my hair was long, I could wake up in the morning, pull my hair back into a tight ponytail and start my day. Now that I'm sporting my latest pixie, I wake with some major bed-head!

When it comes to pixies, I should know what I'm talking about. From the time I was a wee one, my mom would take me to "The Beauty Shop" in the small town where I grew up and Marlys would give me a pixie. As the 8th girl in the family, I'm quite sure that she was tired of combing out knots and braiding hair... plus I was a bit of a tomboy so a pixie just made sense!

Short hair doesn't HAVE to mean more work, though, if you have the right cut and maintain it with regular trims. Here are 10 of my top suggestions for easy peasy pixie cuts for summer!

Win $5000 or a year's supply of BANANAS! Chiquita is looking for the next sing-off star!

This post brought to you by Chiquita Bananas. The content and opinions expressed below are that of http://www.abeautifullittlelife.com/.

Those who know me well know that I'm not afraid to do something that's a little goofy once in a while... but I usually reserve those moments for close friends and family. When I was approached by Chiquita Bananas to do a video for the Chiquita Jingle Contest and encourage my readers to do the same, I knew that I had to channel my inner "Miss Chiquita" for the Chiquita Banana Singoff!
I remember my mom singing the jingle when I was a wee girl. "I'm a Chiquita banana and I've come to say..." I don't know if she ever really sang the whole jingle, but I do remember the first and last lines.
"I'm Chiquita banana and I've come to say - Bananas have to ripen in a certain way - When they are fleck'd with brown and have a golden hue - Bananas taste the best and are best for you - You can put them in a salad - You can put them in a pie-aye - Any way you want to eat them - It's impossible to beat them - But, bananas like the climate of the very, very tropical equator - So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator."
In 1944 when the jingle came out, bananas were an exotic fruit that was just being released here in the U.S. and the song was meant to teach us how to ripen and eat them. At its peak, the jingle was played over 350 times a day on radio stations all across America!

Check out the Video Gallery to see what some others have done for their submissions... so far I think that if you put a little effort into your video, you have a good chance at the $5000 prize! Plus, if you are OF A CERTAIN AGE, (ahem) the song is already going through your head by now, so you might as well channel YOUR inner Miss (or Mister) Chiquita and give it a shot!

To get started, register here, have a little fun and share a little banana happiness today! You can win these awesome prizes!

See Puerto Rico and Live Your Own 5-Star Vacation Story!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puerto Rico, The All-Star Island for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Aaaahhhh... Puerto Rico. Tropical ocean breezes. Romantic sunsets. Laying on the beach. Paradise! Puerto Rico has 270 miles of coastline and is featured in the Top 10 beaches from Travel Channel -- including Flamenco Beach in Culebra! (often noted to be one of the best beaches in the world) I can imagine laying there, sipping on a pina colada, soaking up some vitamin D and relaxing for days on end. What's that? Laying on the beach isn't your thing? Well guess what. Puerto Rico has a million other things to do! My husband would NEVER be able to lay around on the beach for very long, so we definitely would have to plan more things to do!

Happy Camper :: Camper Update!

To those of you who have been asking for an update on the work I'm doing to our "new to us" camper...

I have officially finished PAINTING! Hooray! After nearly 3 coats, I decided that I didn't like the color, (it was too yellow) so I started all over again. The new color looks 100% better, so I couldn't be happier!

Celebrate May Day with an Awesome Giveaway from NOVICA!

A few weeks ago the folks over at NOVICA (the Nat Geo store) reached out to me and offered me a free gift card so that I could purchase any item I wanted from their website for review AND an additional gift card to give to my readers. What an amazing offer!

If you’re not familiar, NOVICA unites talented artisans from India, Africa, Central America, Asia and so many other places all over the world, who create a wide variety of products ranging from fair trade jewelry to home d├ęcor and unique gifts. Not only do you purchase a product, but you can learn about the lives of each artisan who is creating your treasure and support their passion. I had such a difficult time choosing just one thing from NOVICA with their very generous $40 gift card. Should I pick a rug? A piece of art? Jewelry? Eventually, I decided on one of their beautiful statement necklaces from the artist named Sasina in North Thailand.
