Your Spring Closet Reset // Keep or Purge?
It's time to start packing away those super thick sweaters, turtlenecks, and wooly socks, and time to start bringing out the culottes, white jeans, and boyfriend cardigans. When you are unpacking your spring clothes, it's the perfect time to make some decisions.
KEEP an item to wear for another season
These decisions aren't always easy, but here are a few tips that I find helpful when I'm going through my wardrobe.
First and foremost:
Do you love it?
If you do, then you're done. You ALWAYS keep it. If you love it and it doesn't fit you anymore, you keep it until you find a replacement. Where might you find the same skirt in a different size? There are tons of online consignment shops. A simple google search for the item, brand and size is a good place to start!
Is it damaged?
Look everything over for missing buttons and tears. If you're like me, you THINK you'll have things repaired, but you never do. Either fix it or forget it.
Does it fit?
Sometimes (not always) it's ok to keep something that doesn't fit. I have a variety of sizes in my closet because my weight fluctuates - and I'm NOT going to get rid of something good only because it's a little snug. BUT
Is it outdated?
If it's out of style and you don't see it coming back, then purge. If you love it and you think it has a cool, retro thing going on then you've got to ask for a second opinion! Wear it out and see if you get goofy looks or compliments!
How versatile is it?
If you're on the fence about it but you know that you can wear it with several other items in your closet, you might want to hold on to it for another season and see how much use you get from it.
Do you wear it?
Ok, so you really like the shirt but you haven't worn it in 3 years. Time to get real. Unless you foresee an upcoming occasion where you'll actually wear the shirt, it's taking up valuable real estate in your closet. You might want to purge.
