Holidays present a great opportunity to sit back and think about all of the things that you are thankful for. I have so much to be thankful for this spring! It truly is A Beautiful Little Life that I have!

Work at Home Wednesday in ModCloth

ModCloth is a fabulous company that features fun, quirky clothes that come in all sizes! I love that they feature real women modeling their clothes. (and they have AWESOME shoes!)

Besides all of that, as you can see by the ads to the right, ModCloth supports bloggers like myself by offering a great affiliate program - meaning that if you see something you like on my blog and you shop at ModCloth, they pay me a small fee. It's not much, but it adds up and a little goes a long way when it comes to supporting my blogging adventure!

Spring Decor: Robin's Nest

Last spring we had a mama robin build a nest on top of our outdoor light - right outside our front door! I debated whether to remove it or leave it be... and much to my mailman's horror (the light is directly above our mailbox and he was dive-bombed regularly by a VERY protective mama) I left it.

Easter Style from MANGO

Whether you celebrate Easter traditionally, or just celebrate ham, chocolate eggs, and peeps, times have really changed when it comes to Sunday style! I remember getting a new Easter dress every year, a new bonnet maybe, and white sandals to complete the look. I was 8 years old... Now I spend Easter morning cooking and barely get out of my pajamas before we sit down for dinner! I'm looking for an outfit that is comfortable, versatile, spring-like and fun for Easter.

What I found is the MANGO spring collection on  The looks are young, fresh and versatile! I like that the individual pieces in the collection are very basic, but the textures and colors make them unique. I fell in love with their elastic waist knit pants for lounging on a lazy Sunday morning! Last, but certainly not least, I adore that their prices are very affordable!

Sick Day :(

Being sick SUCKS. There is nothing I can do but stay in bed with my favorite blanket and my iPad - and hope that this goes away soon!

Closet Overhaul Complete!

My closet overhaul is finally complete! It took me a LOT longer than I thought it would... and I tried on a lot of clothes that no longer fit me! They're now happily stashed on the tippy top shelf of my hubby's closet for after I lose weight. (haha!) Some day I'll be ready to get rid of them...

I pulled the shoe organizer out from the corner so I could have easier access to the shoes, but in doing so I lost a lot of hanging space so I folded all of my white tees instead of hanging them and put them in two stacks - one for short sleeves and one for long sleeves. (I buy them in bulk when they are on sale. You can never have too many plain white tees!)

AND here's how it looks now!

Best of all, everything FITS, there's nothing I won't wear, (sorry honey, the cut off royal blue sweats are still in there...) and I know I have easy access to my regulars!

I realized that I have a lot more bottoms than I have tops. Kind of odd considering that I, like almost everyone, have a hard time fitting bottoms. Plus I live in a tee shirt, (or tank top) scarf and cardi pretty much year round.

NOW all I need is some warmer weather so that I can actually WEAR some of my favorite spring items! Until then, my suede and denim jackets, my cardigan sweaters, and my long sleeve tees will be in heavy rotation!

Music to Clean By...

Today is the day when I am FINALLY getting time to go through the closet mess that I posted on Monday. I totally need some inspiration to get moving... It's only 5ยบ outside here today and I know that I'm not going to be able to pack up the sweaters and boots just yet, but I am in desperate need of some SPRING FEELIN'!

Time to crank up some music and get to work! My favorite music to clean by is the cd "extraordinary rendition" by Rupa & the April Fishes. I saw them at SXSW back in 2008 at an event hosted by Cumbancha records and LOVED them - even though I was sick at the show and ended up in the ER the next day with pneumonia. Ugh. Anyhow - check out this music and tell me that it doesn't get you FIRED UP!

The whole album is fabulous! I think it's happy, sexy, smart and fun! "Rupa" is of East Indian heritage, born in the Bay Area, lived in southern France, sings in French, Spanish, English and Hindi - and a physician to boot?! Really?

Spring Cleaning Week! WARDROBE

scogin mayo
Even though we have a BLIZZARD warning here in Minneapolis today, I'm still posting according to plan and that makes this week SPRING CLEANING WEEK! All week you'll see different posts related to spring cleaning - from top to bottom!

My first challenge this week is to get my wardrobe ready for spring and get my closet clean and organized. As you can see from the pics, it's a big ol' hot mess. I'm guessing that you're feeling ready to pack away some bulky sweaters and bust out the flip flops too! Let's clean our closets!

A 4-Piece Bikini? YES!

One of the most brilliant things I've seen is new this season from Lands' End. Long known to have fab swimwear in sizes for every woman, this new line makes perfect sense! They say that it's the most versatile collection of swimwear for any woman and I totally agree!

The Secret to Having It All

In Home Microdemabrasion

In my constant search for home beauty treatments that work, I came across an ad for a home microdermabrasion system that sounded AWESOME! It used real diamonds to exfoliate dead skin and a vacuum to clear it away. I should have known when they said that it had "diamond exfoliation" that it would mean that it was overpriced, but I went online to purchase it immediately.

I always read reviews before I make an online purchase and I have to say that the reviews for this very expensive machine were not very good. Although the machine cost what just 3 microdermabrasion treatments in a salon cost, I didn't want to just throw away my money!

Style Spotlight: Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu has such a youthful style, it's hard to believe that she is 44 years old! Clearly she doesn't play by the rules... No mini skirts over 40? Look at those LEGS!

Her first professional acting job was as a waitress on "Beverly Hills 90210" and she had bit parts early in her career on "The X-Files", "ER" and "NYPD Blue".

Her big break was when she landed the role of Ling Woo on "Ally McBeal". Since then she has been in the "Charlie's Angels" movies, "Kill Bill", and is currently starring in "Elementary" with  Jonny Lee Miller, where Lui plays Dr. Watson.

It's been a long time since I've seen a television character inspire so many women with her style, but Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson has done just that! SkyLIVING has 34 pages of inspiration on how to get Lucy Liu's "Elementary" layered looks and emulate her style in their section called "Get The Look: Joan Watson". Here are a few of my favorites!

Single Serving Simple Baked Pancake

I love Sunday morning breakfast and this recipe is a family favorite! I remember when I was in high school visiting a Pannekoeken Huis restaurant - back when the waitstaff had to wear those ridiculous costumes and wooden shoes. I sometimes still yell "PANNEKOEKEN" like they did at the restaurant  when they served one.

A whole baked pancake is WAY TOO MUCH food for one person, so I tweaked the recipe to make a single serving size. It's a very versatile recipe, though. I've doubled it and baked it in a pie pan, tripled it and baked it in a 9"x13" pan, and it always comes out just awesome! It's just right for a late breakfast and is super easy to make!

ALMOST out of dish soap!

Saturday is almost always cleaning day for me and today I've got my work cut out for me! It's been a super busy week as I launched my social media services biz where I set up Facebook and Twitter for small businesses and manage the accounts for them.

Anyhow, I went to tackle last nights dirty dishes (don't judge... I was TIRED!) and realized that I was almost out of dish soap. We have a dishwasher, but some things require a scrub. I JUST saw a tweet this morning from lifehacker on how to use a foaming soap dispenser to make dish soap last longer, so I thought I'd give it a try.

As you can see, there isn't even enough soap left to pump out onto my dishes.

I LOVE these Method bottles with the Orla Kiely designs on them. They are so pretty, I just can't throw them out, so I hit my storage shelf to find an empty foaming hand soap dispenser.

After cleaning it up a bit and making sure all of the hand soap was out of it, I measured 2 Tbsp. of the dish soap into the container. (That's how much soap the lifehacker page said you needed, so I wanted to be sure that I had enough.)

Once the measuring was done and I knew there was enough dish soap to give it a go, I tipped the bottle and let every bit drain out so it wouldn't go to waste.

I filled the foaming soap dispenser with water and shook gently until it was all blended and gave it a few pumps to make sure it was foaming... and it WAS! (Yep. I was surprised enough for those capital letters. Who knew?)

But would it really clean? I took my greasy, melty pan left from grilled roast beef and cheese sandwiches that had been sitting in the sink overnight and used two pumps of soap. A quick swipe with my scrubber and a rinse with hot water...

and it was clean! There wasn't any greasy residue or anything. It was just clean. I have always been a two pump soaper - that's two pumps of dish washing soap - so I was skeptical, but this clearly worked!

I'll definitely keep doing this in the future. Especially for those times when I'm just using the hand scrubber to clean up a single pan. It works great!

Thanks lifehacker! (if you'd like to see their original post, here is the link)

One Wild and Precious Life!

Boho Accessories for Spring from Sundance

Artful Contrasts Jacket
We "SPRING AHEAD" this weekend and although none of us can afford to lose an hour of precious sleep, the thought that spring is coming makes it all worth it! I have spring fever really really really bad this week (probably because we got another 10 inches of snow) and I can't get warmer weather off my mind.

The "Artful Contrasts Jacket" is super cute and I can see it easily becoming a spring favorite for work and for the weekend! A great jacket can turn a simple tee shirt and jeans into a pulled together look that you can wear anywhere and look great!
