Home Office Decor DIY Memo Boards & FISH?

I found two round cork boards on clearance at Tuesday Morning - and they were CHEAP! The original price at TM was $5.99 and they were 80% off! I wasn't crazy about the color or pattern, but saw an opportunity that was too good to pass up!

I used mod podge and some ikat gift wrap that I picked up at World Market and for a few dollars each have great looking memo boards for my office!

Mom's Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread - SO GOOD!

I really am not a fan of zucchini, but if you grate it up into little tiny pieces and put it into a bread form with some chocolate chips - well that changes EVERYTHING!

My mom made awesome zucchini bread, and when I saw zucchini at the farmer's market last weekend, I had to get some! This is a moist and delicious bread that's not too heavy, but dense enough to slice nicely. The most time consuming part is grating the zucchini, but if you have a food processor you can do it in a snap!

Home Office Decor DIY: DRESSER

You might remember that I'm working on my home office from this post a few weeks ago. It's been a lot of hard work, but it's definitely starting to come together and I can't wait for the big reveal!

For now, I'll settle for the little reveal. Today I'm showing how I refinished a hand-me down dresser using gray paint and gel stain.

"Do Not Go Quietly" {Book Review}

Book Review: Do Not Go Quietly by George and Sedena Cappannelli

The book is pitched as "an extraordinary and important book for all GenXers (40-45), Boomers (46-64) and Elders (65+). "  At age 42, I fall under the GenXers category. I am reminded throughout the book at it is for "those of us who are in the second half of life - and please remember this group includes everyone who is 40 and older". In reality, I would, perhaps, recommend this book only to someone who fit under their "Elder" category of  65+ - and even then I would only recommend it to someone who was really struggling with the idea of aging.

Best Peach Cobbler EVER!

My hubby LOVES my peach cobbler. What's not to love? It's loaded with real butter, fresh ripe peaches and baked with lots of love!

The recipe is fairly simple, but I NEVER have self-rising flour on hand. Here's a tip: for each cup of flour that the recipe calls for, use 1 cup of flour, 1-1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt.

Summer Product Roundup - Ten Must Have Items

I have to admit... summer is not my favorite season. My philosophy is that you can always put more clothes on if you get cold, but you can only take OFF so much before you get into trouble! I'm already looking forward to sweater weather, but here are some of my favorite things for summer.

A few are brand new products, most are trusted go-to products that I've used for years and have come to depend on.

Staying Cool - With or Without A/C

It's downright TROPICAL here in Golden Valley, and the weather forecast doesn't look like there will be any relief in the near future. We have been running our central air conditioning for days without a break and I hate to think what that bill will look like!

Summer Whites

I love wearing a crisp white shirt in the summer! As the temperatures rise nothing feels or looks better than a white or off white top with jeans. Here are just a few looks I've put together - some super casual, some a bit over the top! All with a bit of white.

Have a great weekend!

Why not WORK OUT in style?!

When I work out, I find myself donning the same ugly cut off sweats and the same white tee shirt every time. I have cute crops and bra tops in my closet, but my go to workout wear is a frightful sight!

Today I'm asking myself... why not make an effort to look awesome when I work out? Here are some awesome looks from gaiam.comlucy.com and lululemon.com.

Reinventing My Home Office

As I mentioned in my last post, I've been working hard to plan an office "refresh" for so long now and I finally have something to show for all of my efforts!

I am SO tired of the accumulation of "treasures" that has been piling up on every surface. It's seriously time to do some rearranging, add some storage, and help some things find new homes.

It's a little overwhelming to step back and see all of the work that needs to be done, but I'm excited to see how it all comes together in the end!

Here's the plan:

Except that the room that my office is in ALSO has my closet AND the treadmill & exercise bike in it, so it really has to have 3 separate zones to look more like this:

In order to, in the words of Tim Gunn, "MAKE IT WORK" I decided to ditch the exercise bike right away. I never use it and so it's now in the garage awaiting a new home. I've already purchased two tall black bookcases to flank the window and plan to go back for two more shorter bookcases to go directly under the window. I'll gain a ton of storage space!

Moving the dresser close to the closet will allow me to use some of the freed up drawer space (because of the new bookcases) for clothes. A bit of black paint touch up on my parsons desk and the dresser will help with the flow - and voila! I should even be able to fit an additional chair for seating!

Now that the planning is complete, it's time for the heavy work. This may take a while! ;)

The story of my life & how I made my sidewalk 6" wider!

Today was supposed to be the day that I tackled my office. I've been working hard to plan for an "office reinvention" and can't wait to get it done! BUT I wanted to get outside this morning and mow the lawn before the heat and humidity made it absolutely unbearable, so at 9:00 a.m. I fired up the mower and about 2 hours later I was finished. When I was mowing back by the shed I saw some scrap wood leftover from when we demolished an old bar that was in the basement and thought it JUST might work to keep the weeds from growing up into our chain-link fence that surrounds our backyard!

Tall weeds that grow up into the fence. Grrrr...
Exhausted from mowing, I started digging and found out that the scrap wood was a nice fit! I didn't do the entire back yard, but I did a couple of sections and will have to keep going another day...

After I dug down and put some scrap wood under the chain-link. Nice!
BECAUSE I got distracted by the sidewalk and how there were grass clippings all over it. I went to get the broom and the garden hose and discovered how grown over the whole thing was.

Overgrown and full of grass clippings.
SO I started digging. Turns out that our sidewalk was bigger than I thought! A LOT bigger!

Edging the sidewalk.
Of course you can't stop something like that until the entire sidewalk is done, so I kept on digging and digging - both sides were overgrown!

Almost done!
I didn't mind that it was wet and muddy work (the water helped loosen up the soil so I could dig easier) because it was after noon and SUPER hot out! By the time I finished, I had blisters on both hands, I had a bit of sunburn on the back of my neck, and I was MUD from head to toe BUT my sidewalk looked super!

Sidewalk to the kitchen.
So my day is over halfway done, my laundry hasn't been started and the house is a mess, my office redeco hasn't begun, one bookcase is still in the box and instead of working... I'm blogging. THAT is the story of my life! :)

Gorgeous weather is finally here in Golden Valley and it's been a fantastic week to get outside! I've been able to get in several walks with Copper this week and have really been watching what I eat as well - which has paid off on the scale! (down 2.9 pounds so far)

Very Berry Pudding Cake for 4th of July

This lovely dessert is like a pudding, but has a light cake topping. Best of all, each generous serving has only 141 calories! Go right ahead with that squirt of Reddi-Whip to make it the PERFECT red, white and blue dessert for July 4th!

It's a light, healthy alternative to a heavy cake. Keep in mind that this pudding is not super sweet so if you want to sweeten it up a bit, sprinkle the top with a little powdered sugar before serving.
