New look, same great blog!

I've had a few issues in the last couple of days with my feed, my web address, and some general problems with past blog posts. My apologies to those who have lost touch!

I moved my blog back to Blogger, but the address is the same, so you don't need to do anything - you should continue to see the blog posts just as you always have.

Super Yummy, Super Easy, Super Bowl Shrimp Taco Bites!

I've been browsing pinterest to find some new appetizers to make for the big game, and experimenting with some of the things in my cupboard to try to come up with some new ideas.

This recipe is my version of a shrimp on a tortilla chip, using ingredients from my pantry and fridge! You'll notice that I started with 6 shrimp in the pan, but there are only 5 "bites" shown in the final pic. Yep. They turned out THAT GOOD!

Thrift Shop Picture Makeover

Yesterday while doing a quick clean in my husbands office, I was looking for a way to display some photos of his daughter and her family, but didn't have any frames or a board to use.

I grabbed an old picture that I picked up a few years ago at our local thrift shop and some craft supplies, and made a burlap pocket photo holder for him!

Introducing Gypsy Warrior

Every once in a while I stumble across a new shop that makes me reach out to the brand. Gypsy Warrior is one of them!

Their website says that they are for the woman who loves adventure - dances to the beat of her own drum - cranks up the music and sings along... believes in magical moments and never ending fun! She is aGYPSY WARRIOR.

Happy Hormones, Slim Belly by Jorge Cruise {Book Review}

When I was given an opportunity to review a new diet book written just for women over 40, I knew it was for me! I was provided a free review copy from Hay House Books... and this review is my opinion!

When the author said that women's sugar cravings are  hormone related, I said DUH! When he says that you have to cut sugar calories to lose weight but you have to eat sugar calories to balance your hormones, I wanted to know more.

Keeping Home {Self-Care Saturday}

Saturdays around here are, as you know, devoted to self-care. Often times I find myself, though, having to tend to household chores on Saturday - catching up on laundry, vacuuming and sweeping floors - the same as most of you! Have you ever noticed that when your house is a mess, you feel kind of a mess? And when you feel like a mess, your housekeeping is one of the first things to slide? That is definitely the case for me. What if, instead of looking at housekeeping as a chore, we kept our homes the way that we wanted to feel on the inside? Disarray and clutter would certainly have new meaning to me, as would cleanliness and organization.

10 MUST HAVE moisturizers

I have been struggling something FIERCE lately to keep my skin from turning into a desert. It's so incredibly dry that I just can't keep up with it!

I've compiled a list of what is working for me these days - and hopefully it can help you a bit with your winter skin and hair.

Links below are affiliate links, so if you click on them to buy the product I recommended, I'll get a small commission. They are all fab products that I would easily recommend regardless of compensation, so believe me when I say that I was not influenced by that, but I do appreciate any support for my blog, so please SHARE  this post with your friends!

How to Cope with S.A.D. {Self-Care Saturday}

Let's face it... half of the U.S. just came out of record breaking cold temperatures, and it's had an effect of all of us! For some people, the change in weather can trigger a change in personality -- from happy (or at least okay) and relaxed to depressed and tense. They have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, concentrating, and eating healthy (especially when it comes to carbohydrates, which they crave). They lose interest in the activities that they ordinarily enjoy, and they may feel irritable and down. You are likely starting to feel the effects of the lack of warm sunshine, fresh air and outdoor activity that you are used to.

There are ways to deal with SAD on your own. Here's what I found:

Planning Your Summer Garden & Landscape Projects

What better time than January to start planning your summer landscaping and gardening projects! I remember when I was a kid and my mom would get the seed catalog from Gurney's in the mail around this time of year. She would spend DAYS paging through it. Now I know why! When it's freezing outside (it IS a POLAR VORTEX after all...) it's nice to remember that the snow will melt, the temperatures will rise, and we will, once again, be able to get our hands dirty.

I haven't received any seed catalogs in the mail, but I have been utilizing some great online resources that I'm happy to share with you!

A Self Care Revolution! {Self-Care Saturday}

from the Latin revolutio,
"a turn around"

Let me be clear. I'm not suggesting a New Year's ReSolution. I'm calling for a reVolution! A complete and total turn around in how you live your life.

Because, really, doesn't every New Year's Resolution come down to self care when you think about it? The most popular resolutions are to lose weight, save money, get fit, eat healthier food, manage stress, quit smoking, volunteer... see what I mean?

When you pledge to take good care of yourself, all of these other things just fall into place.

When you come from a place of true self care, eating healthier is a choice you make every day... not an annual goal that you fail to implement into your life. You make time to exercise because it helps you manage stress and makes you feel good. You don't smoke because you know that there are major consequences to your health and well-being.

So why not approach every day from a place of self-care? What are the obstacles that are in your way?
Do you need a reminder at the start of each day to take care of yourself?

As a gift to start the new year, I'm giving you a FREE PRINTABLE DOWNLOAD that you can use as a reminder to make self care a priority every day!

Every time you see it, remember that self care should be an important part of your life every day!

Antique Printer Cabinet Rescue

In mid-November my husband and I stopped on a whim at an estate sale just down the street from our home, and tucked in under the stairs down in the basement we found this Hamilton antique printer cabinet. I knew immediately that I had to have it, and I've been working on restoring the piece since that day when we brought it home.

It started in the garage because it was FAR too filthy to bring into our house. The previous owner had every slot in every drawer packed full of old, rusty screws and bolts, keys, nails - hardware of all sorts.

Cleaning was the first priority and I found an all natural stripper at Ace Hardware. It's made by Back to Nature and it's called Ready Strip. It totally made the first layer of crud easy to remove. You just spread it on nice and thick, leave it sit for a few hours, then scrape away the old dirt, finish and stripper.
