Making New Friends {Self-Care Saturday}

art by Geninne
Between work, managing your home, and family time, making time for friendships can fall by the wayside. Facebook has replaced actual face time and many adult women lack the bond of close female friendships.

When you're a kid, making friends is usually pretty easy. Your locker is next to someone, so they are your friend. You sit by them in class, so at least for that semester they are your friend.

As adults, it's not always that easy. Workplace friendships can be difficult and can present a conflict of interest if you are in a position of authority. Neighbors can be great friends, but how do you get beyond a quick wave from the car as you drive past their house?

Style Spotlight: Keri Russell

From "Felicity" to "The Americans" - Keri Russell has always looked fabulous!

I love her casual, tomboy style - yet she still always incorporates a few feminine details. It's what makes her look special and gives her a unique beauty all her own.

Trusting Your Intuition {Self-Care Saturday}

You know that small voice inside that tells you what to do, or that sinking feeling in your stomach that lets you know something just isn't right. Everyone has feelings of intuition, but some don't pay any attention to those feelings.

Most successful people follow their intuition regularly - whether they call it "tuning in" or "following a hunch" it all comes down to being highly intuitive and learning how to listen to the messages that your intuition is sending you.

How can you become better in tune with your intuition? Here's a list of 10 things that you can do:

LESS LAWN MORE GARDEN Create A Grassless Area in Your Yard

This spring, I'm taking a look at our yard with fresh eyes to see what I can do to help our yard become more "green" in more way than one!

It's no secret that, environmentally speaking, maintaining a lush lawn isn't very "green". Keeping weeds at bay requires the use of herbicides, keeping everything pristine requires water and fertilizer, and running a lawnmower for 1 hour produces as much pollution as 4 hours of driving a car.

Lawns DO provide a healthy feeding ground for birds who find it full of insects, worms and other food. Thick grass prevents erosion, absorbs pollutants like dust and soot from the air, and filters contaminants from rainwater.

Doggie DNA Test: What Breeds Make Up Your Mix?

We rescued our sweet Maggie late last fall from our local humane society. When we found her, they had her listed as a "Lab/Retriever Mix" and because my husband had wanted a lab for oh, about 20 years, we jumped at the chance to give her a new home!

We have, of course, fallen head over heels in love with her, but over time it has become abundantly clear that she is NOT a lab/retriever mix.

Forgiveness: 21 Days to Forgive Everyone for Everything {Self-Care Saturday Book Review}

Let me start by saying that I had heard of Iyanla Vanzant before reading this book, but I wasn't really familiar with her work and didn't know what to expect. Overall, I have to say that this book seemed a bit too esoteric at first. The idea of using "tapping" - which is a form of acupuncture that doesn't use needles - didn't seem like it's related to forgiveness, and for me there was a disconnect.

Recipe: This Sugar Free Treat Is A DIET SAVER! Microwave "Muffin" or "Cake" or "French Toast"

My husband and I went completely sugar free almost 2 weeks ago. It's been VERY difficult, (he's done better than I have) but I think that it's been completely worthwhile. For more information on why, you can see this post. (It's because we're sweet enough already!)

Nervous About Cutting Your Hair? Try a Pixie Bob!

You love the pixie cut and you wish that you were brave enough to go for it... but you just CAN'T!

You are definitely not alone. With the pixie being one of the hottest hair cuts right now, what can you do if you don't want to end up with extensions in 3 months? Try a longer pixie, or a pixie bob!

It's a super cute, layered bob with the same angles as a pixie cut. The best part is that if you decide to go ahead and get a shorter pixie next time, you can, and if you decide to grow it out, well you miss that awful stage when it just looks sloppy.

Fun Spring Jackets Under $100

I didn't think it would ever happen, but temps have finally gotten above freezing here in Minneapolis! It's time to pack up the down parka and the Sorels and think about rain boots and lighter jackets.

Here's a selection of gorgeous spring jackets that I love - and they are all priced under $100 - many are under $50!

The biggest question is - how can you pick just one?!

Spring Is In the Air! The Urge to Purge!

Now that there is a hint of spring in the air and we're hitting temps in the 50's, I feel like doing a little cleaning! As I type this, my office window is open to allow the fresh air to come in.

I have a super strong urge to PURGE! I want to go through and get rid of everything that I can to make this home clean, uncluttered and full of light.

It's so great to feel the energy of spring. It's the season of starting things anew and shedding the old. I'm hitting the office today with a bag for charity and I'm not going to stop until it's full. Then I'm going to do that same with my closet.

Sweet Enough Already? TIME TO CUT SUGAR

It seems that everywhere you look these days there is an article about how how terrible SUGAR is for your body. Even my husband commented that he is seeing more and more information every day about how much sugar we all consume.

There's a big trend out there called a "sugar detox" and how you can tame your sugar cravings if you stop eating sugar completely for three weeks. That sounds INCREDIBLY difficult, so if you commit to doing it, it had better really work! Here's what I found out about how to cut sugar cravings.

Should You Take Vitamin Supplements? {Self-Care Saturday}

About 6 months ago there was a story on the news that taking a multivitamin decreased your risk of getting cancer for men. It was enough information to make my husband start taking a daily dose of Centrum!

Now headlines are saying that you shouldn't waste your money on multivitamins. It seems that there are a million different studies that say you SHOULD or SHOULD NOT take vitamin supplements.
