Go to the Movies! [Self-Care Saturday]

Seeing a movie is a great way to escape from everyday life. Whether you chose a romantic comedy, a drama, an action packed flick, or the latest horror movie, the moment you enter a movie theater and gaze up at the big screen, you are immediately transported to another world. Movies are the modern day fairy tales, meant to not only entertain, but often to provide a message that touches your heart in a way that you've never felt before.

I recently received the book "The Whole-Hearted Life" by Susyn Reeve, and although I haven't read the entire book, a short section on seeing movies caught my eye - particularly where she lists her favorite movies with a short description of why she liked them. Here are a few titles & descriptions from her list that I wanted to share:

Free Super Bowl BINGO Game and Printable Prop Bets 2015

It's almost time for the Super Bowl and I'm already getting a huge kick out of the commercials that have been leaked! That puppy in the Budweiser commercial is so freakin' adorable I could die!

While I was browsing online I came across a Super Bowl BINGO game that looks like a total blast! You play it during the game AND during the commercials and the first to cover 5 spaces in a row wins. I can't wait to print off the BINGO cards for my fam to play with while we watch the big game! Keep reading to check out the game cards and download yours.

I also love the "PROP BETS" - the goofy bets that go on during the game. They include everything from the length of the national anthem to the color of Bill Belichick's hoodie. There's an awesome full-sheet download available; just keep reading to find out how to get yours!

Spice Up Your Super Bowl Burgers! {Ginger Burger Recipe}

I love GINGER in the winter. It warms your whole body when it's super cold outside, it helps your digestion, and it's just an overall good tonic for you.

This Ginger Burger is the perfect way to spice up your Super Bowl - especially after the huge snowstorm on the east coast!

The recipe was from a cookbook that I found at an estate sale last weekend. It's one of those plastic bound cookbooks titled  "Cookin' from Scratch" that so many church groups put out here in the mid-west. They have the most fabulous recipes because you KNOW that people only submit their very best dishes! This cookbook was put together by "The Cookbook Committee at Holy Rosary Church Altar Rosary Society" and the recipe is from B.J. McMullen.

Yoga for Energy & Stress Relief {Self-Care Saturday}

When I consistently do yoga, I feel so differently all day long - it's one of the best things that I can do to take care of myself.

When I received a copy of the Yoga for Energy & Stress Relief dvd from Gaiam I was super excited. I love adding new yoga routines into the mix. It keeps me from getting bored!

I've been a huge fan of Rodney Yee for a long, long time. You might remember this post or this post where I talked about my love of Rodney and his AM/PM Yoga dvd. This dvd made me love him even more! There's something about his manner that instantly calms me - and can you really think of any better stress reliever than that?

Crafting A Colorful Home by Kristin Nicholas {Book Review} + FREE PROJECT DOWNLOAD!

I received a copy of "Crafting A Colorful Home" from the publisher, Roost Books, for review and I couldn't wait to tell you about it! In "Crafting A Colorful Home" Kristin Nicholas guides you on how to not just decorate your home, but to build a home that reflects your personality.

She takes you through your entire home, room by room, from the front entry to the back patio and everything in between with craft projects you can make, painting techniques that you can use on your walls and so much more!

To me, a colorful home is a home that is put together over time. It makes me think of my grandma's house, with her afghans, favorite throw pillows, vintage wall art, and kitchy dishes. A beautiful combination of old and new!

Why Creating Your Own Style Matters More Than You Think!

Creating your own unique style is more important now than ever. We put ourselves out there every day through our work, social media, our daily activities, and a great deal of the things that we do are documented for the public!

Whether it's the selfie you post on Instagram at a concert, the promotion you post on LinkedIn at work, the status update on Facebook, or the comment you retweet on Twitter, it all combines to create your public image.

This image that you project to the masses is your "BRAND" and it definitely matters! Today, I am circling back to 3 past posts and I'm combining them into 1 post. Not because I'm a lazy blogger. Not because I have hit a creative wall. Instead it's because I think that the message in these posts bears repeating!

Style Spotlight: Boho Goddess Stevie Nicks

I am SO excited to be going to see FLEETWOOD MAC live in concert tonight with my husband. I've been a fan of the band for as long as I can remember, and today I wanted to pay homage to the beautiful Stevie Nicks by featuring her in a Style Spotlight post.

When I say that she is the "Boho Goddess" it's because I can't imagine anyone else in the entire world that is more deserving of that title. She is so incredibly beautiful, from her early days in Fleetwood Mac to her appearances on American Horror Story Coven last season, she has a style like none other.

Some of my favorite Stevie Nicks style moments follow, along with resources to bring out your own inner Stevie! If you're at the show tonight, message me on twitter @ahlmt so we can connect!

A New Yoga Mat + Up-cycling Your Old One

I was cleaning my office (trying to get organized for the New Year) when I came across a package that I received from Gaiam MONTHS ago. Happy belated Christmas to me! It contained a beautiful new yoga mat and a new yoga DVD. I'll do a review of the DVD later, but I totally love my new yoga mat!

You don't realize how nasty your old yoga mat is until you get a beautiful new one. Mine's the orange one with the pink floral paisley design. My old mat was anything BUT inspiring. It's an ugly, plain gray mat. I'm happy to replace it, but wanted to find a way to use my old mat without just throwing it out.

There are TONS of ways to upcycle an old yoga mat. Here are some of my favorites!

8 Post Holiday / / Winter MUST DO Cleaning Projects

'Tis the season to organize, SANITIZE, de-clutter, and usher in the new year with a fresh, clean, start! Doing an annual deep-cleaning of your home in the winter is super important - especially this year with all of the nasty viruses floating around.

Now I'm not one of those people who are clean freaks. I don't love to clean. I'm not particularly GOOD at cleaning, and cleaning isn't something that I take too seriously. (just ask my hubby!) I don't have a cleaning schedule or routine and if I can put it off until tomorrow - I will!

But during the winter when you're cooped up indoors I do think it's important to go through and do a deep clean. Not only for your physical health but for your mental health as well!

When I clean, I want to hit the important stuff but not waste time with things that don't matter. Here are my top 10 winter cleaning musts.

Women, Food, and Desire - Embrace Your Cravings, Make Peace with Food, Reclaim Your Body {Book Review}

I received a copy of the fabulous book "Women, Food, and Desire" by Alexandra Jamieson from the publisher for review - and I was so impressed that I wanted to share it with you.

Alexandra Jamieson is a holistic health counselor, and she was a co-star of the award-winning documentary Super Size Me. In this book, she explores women’s cravings—for food, sleep, sex, movement, companionship, inspiration—and teaches them to listen to their bodies for a healthier, fuller life.

Having overcome her own food addictions and the weight and health problems these habits caused, she learned something life-altering: when we listen to our cravings, they will lead us onto the path of deep healing.
Since her own personal breakthrough more than a decade ago, Alexandra has dedicated her life to helping other women learn to listen to the wisdom of their cravings and make food their greatest ally as they step into their lives with authentic passion.

DITCH Your New Year's Resolutions! {Self-Care Saturday}

New Year's Resolutions. Everyone makes them, and nobody keeps them! Whether you resolve to lose 10 pounds, cut carbs and sugar, or finally get organized at home, you know that you have your work cut out for you!

Adam Rosante advises (in the January/February issue of Health Magazine) that you ditch those resolutions! Instead of making a wish and then sort of just waiting for it to come true, he suggests that you tap into your 'why power' to make a successful change in the new year.

What's 'why power'? It's your driving force - and it should be linked to emotion in order to help you succeed!

Remember the bowl cut? The pageboy? The wedge? The 1970's are hot in fashion for 2015, so of course the hairstyles are following suit! Why not freshen up your look for the new year by doing something different with your hair? Do you think you would consider one of these 1970's styles for yourself in 2015?
