Save a Bit More $$ at Target this Easter!

The links in this post contain affiliate links and I will receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking on my link.

Every single stinkin' time that I go to Target, they ask me if I want to save an extra 5% on my purchase by applying for a Target REDcard, and every time they ask me I say "No thank you."

Why? Because I don't want to stand there for an extra 5 minutes in the checkout lane while a 16 year old takes down all of my personal financial information and submits it.

Do I want a Target REDcard? Sure! Why not save the extra 5%? I use coupons sometimes, I use the Target Cartwheel app, but I've never applied for the REDcard.  I don't want another credit card, but the Target Debit Card works like a check by drawing right from your checking account! There is no annual fee and you can get up to an extra $40 cash back at the store.

Spring Health Challenge: Stay Hydrated! #infusions

One of the things that absolutely everyone says is uber important when you're eating right and exercising is staying hydrated.. Drinking enough water is so important and yet it is SO difficult! Especially if you're like me and you don't like to drink straight water. It's so strange... if I'm in a restaurant I can pound down the ice water with my meal like there's no tomorrow! But here at home, forget about it!

If it's sweet - I like it. If it's fizzy - I like it. If it's sweet and fizzy - I love it! I've tried those flavored drops, and I like some of them quite a bit, but I don't love artificial sweeteners. I've tried using my soda stream to carbonate water and just add a bit of lemon, and I like it but I don't really drink very much of it. Of course I love sweet and fizzy sodas, but they add a huge number of empty calories and are definitely not going to help with weight loss.

Spring Health Challenge: Plant Power Salad in a Jar Recipe

I love salads in jars. I love it that you can prepare a bunch of jars on Sunday and have salads ready to go all week long. I love it that you can customize each salad to include a variety of ingredients so you don't get the same old thing every day. I love the way I feel when I eat at least one big, green salad every day.

When I found this recipe for a power salad in a jar on - I wanted to share it with you!

I love that it's chock full of good for you fuel to get you through the day!

Spring Health Challenge: 30 Day Weight Loss Lab

Last week I mentioned in a post that I had registered to participate in the 30 Day Weight Loss Lab and I wanted to circle back and let you know a bit more about this awesome program that Josh Anderson created.

I've always wanted to have a "personal trainer" - someone who would hold me accountable and give me step by step instructions on what to do. There is SO MUCH information out there about weight loss and fitness that I get overwhelmed and I have a hard time deciding what to do. Or, I do the opposite and I jump in with both feet but it doesn't last... I burn out or "fall off the wagon" and give up.

The 30 Day Weight Loss Lab is something completely different. Each day, you get online instruction letting you know exactly what you need to do. From taking selfies and baseline measurements on day one, to daily fitness workouts that you can do absolutely anywhere, to nutrition instruction!

Spring Health Challenge: No More Yo-Yo!

Today is my first day of the Spring Health Challenge! I'm doing all of the official things, like weighing in and taking measurements, but I'm also doing lots of other things to help prepare myself for this journey in to good health!

I always get really trippy when I DIET and this is going to be my first weight loss challenge with me absolutely refusing to DIET. Yes, I'm trying to lose weight, but my brain has enough to manage without adding in calorie counting, counting steps, or any other counting in general.

So what's my plan? Good question!

Spring Health: Lose Weight Get Fit Challenge

Why do we even bother with fitness related New Year's Resolutions in January when it's freezing cold outside, the number of hours of daylight are few, and our bodies are begging for hibernation?

Why not, instead, set some goals on the first day of SPRING?

I've already been a lot more active since the weather warmed up. And frankly as much as I hate daylight savings time, that extra hour of sunlight has been a total LIFESAVER for me.

I'm using some great resources to help me reach my goals, and I'm looking for some old and new friends to join me! Here's my plan: (so far)

Floral Shades for Spring // DIY

These floral sunglasses from Dolce and Gabbana are to die for, and they run from $300 to over $700 a pair!

One of the most fun DIY projects that I've seen in a long time is making your own embellished sunglasses. Not only is it fun, but it's so easy! All you need is glue, ceramic flowers or any other sort of embellishments that you'd like, and a steady hand to make some gorgeous glasses that you can sport all summer long!

Check out these awesome DIY flower sunglass projects I found online...

Raspberry and Coconut Glazed Doughnuts {RECIPE} from Christina Ross' "Love Fed" Cookbook

As I was trying to decide on a recipe to feature in todays blog post, I knew it had to be from the new cookbook by Christina Ross called "Love Fed" - Purely Decadent, Simply Raw, Plant-Based Desserts.

This beautiful book is chock full of over 80 delicious, incredible dessert recipes that your whole family will love!

Best of all, every one of these desserts is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and completely free of refined sweeteners! That means you can serve them to virtually any guest and rest assured that even the most sensitive will be able to treat themselves.

And isn't that really what dessert is all about? I'm happy to share the recipe for one of my favorites from the book - the Raspberry and Coconut Glazed Donuts. Thanks to the publisher, BenBella Books, for giving me a review copy of this fabulous book and for granting permission for me to share this great recipe with you!

A Fresh Start for Spring // Clear Your Paper Clutter!

I've just started a new gig with Do It Green! Minnesota and my office is a total disaster area! There is nothing like starting a new project with a clean slate so I turned to "Clean Mama" for help. She's a cleaning and organizing BOSS!

One of the worst problems for me is the constant onslaught of PAPER that I deal with. It was so much worse when the boys were younger and brought home a backpack full every day after school, but there is still plenty coming in.

Clean Mama's 8 Ways to Get A Handle on Paper Clutter is an awesome tool that made a huge difference for me. Keep reading to find all the awesome ways to handle your messy desk!

Moody Bitches by Julie Holland, M.D. Book Review {Self-Care Saturday}

Yesterday morning I got up, flipped on CBS Morning News and hit the couch with my "cuddle puppy" and a cup of hot coffee. I tuned in just on time to see a focus group on Hillary Clinton asking 21 people their opinions. The responses were the same as we've all heard a million times before until one woman said:
"This is a woman who cries, she cries if she has too much stress, that's not a leader."
WTF? Seriously? Because she is a woman and has shown emotion she isn't a leader?

It brought to mind a time in my own life, shortly after the death of my mother, when I was working as a senior advertising sales rep and was called in to a meeting where it was explained that there was going to be a restructuring of my account base and, of course, my commission...

Craft Organization in an Antique Printer Cabinet

I was incredibly fortunate a few years ago and found an Antique Hamilton Printer Cabinet at an estate sale in our neighborhood - for a great price! It was a total mess, but just needed a little TLC and it has resided in our living room ever since. (you can read more about it here)

People ask me all the time what I have stored in it's many drawers and their little cubbies, so I thought I'd feature some photos of the cabinet and it's contents.

All of those little square that used to hold letters for the letterpress printer are the perfect size to organize the many crafty things that accumulate. Check it out!

All You Need is the Love of a Good, Healthy Dog!

A dog gives you so much every day. Besides affection, they help you exercise more, have less stress in your life, and they even help you have a healthier heart. Dogs bring you so much joy... A recent study even shows that a dog brings you as much joy as your own children!

It's true! You can officially call yourself the mama of a fur-baby without a single eye-roll. Researchers looked at brain scans of women who had at least one child between the ages of 2 and 10 and a dog for two or more years. The brain areas linked with emotion, reward, and relationships lit up when they saw photos of their children - AND when they saw photos of their pet! Co-lead author Lori Palley, DVM, of the MGH Center for Comparative Medicine in Boston says, "It's clear people adore their pets, and the positive effect they have on humans is more than evident." 3 Ways To Get Your Silverware Easter Ready

To me, there is NOTHING more nasty than sitting down to eat and noticing that there are water spots all over the silverware...especially if you're at someone else's house. At my own house, it's likely that there will be peanut butter on the back of the knife occasionally, water spots on the spoon, and maybe even some fork goo once in a blue moon. Yuck!

Easter will be here before you know it, and if you're like me, you'll want to break out the fancy silverware to make sure that your guests have the very best! Getting silverware ready for guests doesn't have to be a huge chore.

Here are three easy ways to get your silverware ready quickly and easily with maid service quality.
