Handmade Holiday Decor: Jewel Tree

About a year and a half ago, I went to the MOST exquisite estate sale ever! I even blogged about it and all of the incredible things that were for sale. I purchased quite a few things, including this framed holiday tree made from old broken jewelry that had seen better days.

AS PROMISED... Products From An Online Store That I LOVE! Natural Life #NotAGiftGuide

In yesterday's post, I explained why "A Beautiful Little Life" won't be doing a gift guide this year. I DID say that today I would...
"Feature products from an online store that I love. Because I love them. And if you want to buy anything that I feature because you love it too, that's great! But they aren't a store that I'm affiliated with, so I won't be getting paid by them for the feature, and that's ok with me."
You see, the more that I post about "this special deal", or "that one day sale", the more I buy into the mentality that it's all about shopping for THE perfect gift - no matter what the cost! This year, I want a different kind of Christmas. There will be gifts, of course, but I'm approaching things from a much more SANE point of view!

That's why I love, love, love Natural Life and The Giving Plate shown at the start of this post. The intention is to give love and kindness, joy and comfort, and then for the receiver to pass it on. Now THAT is how you create "A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE CHRISTMAS!"

Why I'm Not Doing A Holiday #GiftGuide

I was on track to do my biggest gift guide ever this season. Gifts for him, gifts for her, gifts for pets... All featuring the latest jackets, sweaters, shoes, books, and perfumes. The most deluxe gift ideas, the most luxurious, the most bang for your buck. Companies have even sent me merchandise to be considered for inclusion in the the gift guide!

Over the last few weeks when I should have been working on it, I've procrastinated. I've hemmed and hawed. I've deep cleaned the bathroom instead of writing. I've decided that the kitchen cabinets needed cleaning out. (or the fridge, or my closet, or the cat boxes)

When it comes down to it, I've realized that I don't want to do a gift guide this year. I'm NOT GOING TO DO A GIFT GUIDE THIS YEAR! No big deal, right? Wrong.

Handmade Holiday Decor: Prism Ornaments

I have some damaged prisms and crystals that I bought at an estate sale and I would like to repurpose them to use as Christmas ornaments and/or gifts. All I needed was a printout of some blue and white snowflakes, some scrapbook paper, and a little mod podge to make it work!

The Most Important Rule When Hosting a Dinner Party

image from seven layer charlotte
When you’re having guests over, the most important accommodation you can provide is food. No one likes to admit it, but coming to a dinner party starving is a common practice. Rather than allowing your guests to become distant, snappy and downright hangry, have a few savory appetizers prepared.

Simplify by Decorating for the Season, NOT the Holidays

image from Huff Post UK
Going all out when it comes to decorating for the holidays seems to be the norm these days. A decorated Christmas tree for each floor of the home, (or for each ROOM) evergreen swags over the doorways, and candles aglow. Outdoors there are trees lit with blinking multicolored bulbs, giant, inflatable snowmen, reindeer, and a sleigh.

A Rustic Home for the Holidays with Dot & Bo!

Get cozy by a crackling fire.

from Dot & Bo: The wintry weather, the musky scent of pine trees, and peppermint hot chocolate waiting to be sipped. All signs point to the holidays being here, and you’re spending them tucked away in your cozy rustic home. Cuddle up with your family on the thick cushions of a sofa, and wrap yourselves in a warm woven throw. Hum carols beneath the gentle lighting of a weathered metal pendant lamp, and watch as flickering candles in pinecone holders send shadows dancing playfully across the walls.

An Urban Home for the Holidays with Dot & Bo!

Celebrate the season with festive industrial designs.

from Dot & Bo: Fill your downtown loft with lots of Christmas treats, Santa will forget the traffic after eating cookies in a tufted leather seat. If that doesn’t convince him to make the trip, coax with an iron bar cart and offer him a sip. He won’t be able to resist some hot spiced mulled wine, nor the sweet brass reindeer and chair ornaments hung with twine. Your cast iron stove helps as the weather gets colder, and candles twinkle atop reclaimed wood shelves in acorn candle holders.

A Very Bohemian Christmas with Dot & Bo!

May your home be festive, eclectic, and bright.

from Dot & Bo: A frosted wreath accented with shimmering ornaments fits perfectly above your fireplace, and dangling white string lights offer hope to all who see them. A stand-up reindeer and eclectic christmas tree décor add to the festive look of each room, and ash wood tea tables are the perfect place to set up cookie decorating stations for the kids.

On-Trend Holiday Styles from Payless

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Payless for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

It's been a long time since I've shopped at Payless, and when I was given the opportunity to partner with them for a series of posts over the holidays I was totally excited!

Back in the days when I worked in sales, I'd stop at a shoe store once a month or so for a little retail therapy. It was nothing to spend $100 or more on a pair of shoes or maybe two. My motto was - and still is - LIFE IS SHORT. BUY THE SHOES!

A Mid-Century Christmas with Dot & Bo!

Have fun with quirky, retro-inspired looks.

From Dot & Bo: Deck the halls with classic holiday décor, like sweet reindeer figurines and cheerful Santa Claus prints. No era did Christmas better than the mid-century, and we’re ready to prove it with iconic pieces like boomerang tables, teak credenzas, and winged sofas. Introducing these pieces with warm wood construction and festive red upholstery, our hearts are filled with cheer as soon as we step into our homes.

It's Beginning to Look A LOT Like Christmas - ALREADY!

I've adapted this beautiful illustration by Geninne to help you remember to THINK about what you want your Christmas to FEEL like. Then when you're inundated with holiday pressures, you'll KNOW what you really need to do to move forward without stress!
As soon as the Halloween decorations came down in stores all across the country, the Christmas decorations went up. I was shoe shopping on Sunday and there was actually Christmas music playing in the store! CHRISTMAS MUSIC!
